Diamonds....................are cheaper on the net.
Don't
buy diamonds retail and pay 300% mark-ups.
These
are common phrases found on web sites marketing diamonds on the Net ....but how
true are they?
The
prices of diamonds certainly are cheaper on the Net...mainly due to the
competitiveness of the Internet...but diamonds are individual and
therefore diamonds classified as being the same carat weight and
having the same characteristics are not always equal in quality.
For
example, the price of rough diamonds is to a large degree
controlled and this factor inherently encourages the diamond
cutter to extract the largest possible stone from the rough
product...often sacrificing quality.
The
Single Most Important Decision.......you must make when buying
diamonds on the net is:.....................Choosing your supplier.
Your
supplier should be a company of good standing within the
established, formal diamond industry employing highly qualified
professionals who are duly affiliated to recognized industry
associations.

The
reason
To
obtain the very best price in terms of Value
For Money
you need highly qualified professionals bound by industry codes of
ethics to guide you through the minefield of variables that apply
to the buying of diamonds.
Here is
an example.
A
random selection of three diamonds of equal size carat weight,
colour and clarity may vary in price by up to 50%.
The
reason for this is:
The
First could be a perfectly proportioned Ideal Cut diamond that would sell
at a premium of about 20%;
The
second could be a nice average diamond of "good proportion and
finish";
The
third could be a poorly proportioned diamond that was cut to
retain enough weight to cross a weight/price threshold.
This
diamond should have been cut into...say a 0.96 ct of good
proportion, but was cut into a 1.0 ct because of the dramatic
price increase once the weight /price threshold is reached. The
diamond is now priced in 1.0 ct to 1.49 ct category instead of the
0.99 ct category.
The
result
You
have purchased an expensive 0.96 ct diamond thinking you bought a
bargain 1ct diamond.
Therefore
if you go price
shopping for
diamonds on the Net without professional help, guess which diamond
of the three you are most likely to buy. The chances
are high that you would end up with
the Expensive
0.96
ct.diamond.and not the diamond of good
proportion and finish, which in fact... for the purpose of this
example represented the best value for money.
